A little about our farm...

We are dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in confirmation, fibre quality, reproduction and herd health. Our love of this animal came from many hours of soul searching and research.

We had 10 acres of land that was sitting idle. Our goal was to find an animal where we could claim farm status on our property in Enniskillen, Ontario and a viable business to look forward to when we retire or perhaps sooner. Our problem, a bleeding heart who could not stand to send an animal off to market to be sold for food. Don't get us wrong, we are not vegetarians, just love to name all our animals and get really attached. Alpacas were an interesting breed that could be maintained on small acreage and very easy to raise. We came across an ad on Alpacas, and thought hmmmmmm! So we looked into all the information we could get our hands on. We spent hours on the internet, talking with different breeders and visiting many farms.

We quickly became sold when we visited our first farm. The breeder took lots of time and patiently answered all our questions. We visited many farms and came across a package that would fit our expectations. Once our herd arrived on our property, we fell in love with the grace and confidence these animals portrayed. They are amazing to watch! We purchased our first package of fine quality fleeced Alpacas, 4 bred females and one fine handsome stud. Our Alpacas quickly became important members of our family and became a great way of life. We had no idea how much fun they would be and how easy they would be to take care of. They do require good care, but are fairly hardy and an enjoyable livestock.

Slowly our herd began to grow as we learned about genetics, bloodlines and what traits we were looking for in the SWA name (Spinning Wheel Alpacas registered name). It has been exciting to see what is being born on our farm by being very particular with genetics and qualities of each animal we breed. We have had some amazing animals born on the farm, including SWA Buster Brown our 2005 Reserve Champion, SWA Slander our 2007 Grand Champion, and we also have to mention our Satin Kisses who won Grand Champion in 2005. These champions have been producing some very nice babies who have also won in the show ring.  It has been a great learning curve and we are proud of the great genetics we have to offer at SWA. We have spent many hours chatting with other reputable breeders about their breeding programs as well as participating in alpaca seminars with experts in this field. We feel we have been influenced by the best in this industry and are proud of our accomplishments.
