Shearing Open House

Saturday May 28th, 2011

10am-5pm

Our annual event is happening again. Lots to do and see.

Each year our shearing season is a reason to Celebrate.  We open our barn doors and invite the public to see how we shear the animals, collect the fibre and how it is processed. There will be spinning and weaving demonstrations, tour the vendors area, get up close to the alpacas, and visit our on farm store the Fleece Station.

Gallery on the Farm will be selling tasty BBQ Certified Organic hamburgers

4H Durham East have delicious baked goods for sale with proceeds going back to the 4-H Club. They sell out quickly, so check them out.

Lots to do during this event:spinning and weaving demonstrations, tour the vendors area, Spy the Border Collie is waiting to be challenged and show off his ball talents.

We love animals, but please leave your pets at home.

Admission is by donation.

Each year we will invite a local charity to our open house.  In June 2010, Nancy was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma.  A common form of Breast Cancer.  2010 has been a challenging year for both Garth and Nancy as they fight this dreaded disease.  The support and love they both have experienced over this past year has been overwhelming.  Family, friends, our customers and even strangers have reached out to the Hutchinson's to help them along this journey.  Nancy found that the Hearth Place has been a consoling place to visit to help her through this rough time.  The Hutchinson's will be inviting The Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre to be their charity of choice for 2011.  To learn more about this not for profit facility visit The Hearth Place

Let Andrea know the alpacas want them here for 2011.

Each year our community pulls through even during a recession.  In 2010 Community Care Durham was thrilled by the donations they received. Community Care Durham reaches several senior citizens, and helps them be independent while continuing to live at home.
